Download this unique e-book today to learn aspects of fair use that will help you understand this often complex and heavily nuanced part of copyright law at a new level. Explaining these often misunderstood aspects of fair use in plain language, Fair Use: The Secrets No One Tells You will enhance your confidence in applying and relying on fair use in your daily life.

The “secrets” identified and discussed in this book are actually aspects of fair use that are either not widely recognized or not widely discussed. Understanding these facets of the fair use doctrine will help readers understand this often complex and heavily nuanced part of copyright law at a new level, thereby empowering readers in their ability to apply and rely on fair use in their daily lives.

The greater your fair use skills are, the more likely you are to take advantage of this right that has been granted to you by copyright law, and the more your students and users will benefit from it, as the law itself intends.

Although fair use is available to anyone, this book is written with educators (at all levels) and librarians in mind. That said, anyone who relies on fair use, or simply wants to understand it at a deeper level, will benefit from reading the book, so don’t be deterred by the repeated references to the education environment.

This book is not a general guide to fair use. Rather, in this book, the author presents multiple points about fair use that she believes are necessary to grasp in order to have a robust understanding and mastery of fair use, but that are most often overlooked or misunderstood.

Purchasing for a library collection?

When you purchase an e-book directly through Digital Information Law, you own what you have purchased. Unlike most e-books, you are not licensing it.

This means that the same law applies as to a printed book, including the first sale doctrine and fair use.

However, because copyright law is so outdated in this context, you may have to take to some steps to ensure that you meet the spirit of the law when you cannot meet the letter of the law.

Loaning and Printing

For example, if want to “loan” the e-book to users, because you are not loaning a physical copy as the first sale doctrine anticipates, you will need to ensure that the number of simultaneous loans does not exceed the number of copies purchased.
Similarly, if you wish to use a printed copy instead of digital, you can print out one copy for each digital copy you have purchased and circulate that instead of providing access to the digital copy(ies).

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If, however, you purchase from a third party source, like Amazon, your use of Fair Use: The Secrets… will be subject to any licenses or other agreements applied by those third parties. Such agreements may attach to the work itself or to the device on which it is being read.

Digital Information Law does not control those third party contracts, but if you buy from us, you OWN the copy!
